Detox Myths & What Your Body Really Needs to Cleanse
Detox.
Itâs one of those buzzwords we see everywhereâon juice bottles, teas, social media, and supplement labels. But with so much noise, it can feel confusing. Do we really need to detox? What does that even mean? And how do we know if our body is struggling?
The truth is this: your body was wonderfully and beautifully made with built-in detox systems. The problem is, in todayâs world, those systems can get overburdened. Supporting them dailyânot with quick fixes, but with simple, sustainable habitsâmakes all the difference.
In this post, letâs bust some detox myths, look at what science actually says, and learn how to support your bodyâs natural pathways using a simple acronym:Â BULLS.
 Myth Busting: What Detox Isnât
Myth #1: Detox means starving yourself or living on juice.
Juice cleanses may make you feel lighter for a few days, but they strip out fiber, spike blood sugar, and donât actually remove toxins. Most of the benefits come simply from cutting out processed food and alcohol.
Myth #2: You need expensive teas or kits.
Many âdetox teasâ are little more than harsh laxatives. They donât cleanse your liverâthey just keep you running to the bathroom. Harvard Health reminds us: your liver and kidneys already do this work beautifully.
Myth #3: Detox is a quick fix.
Your body detoxes 24/7. Itâs not a weekend projectâitâs a daily process. The real question is: are you supporting it, or overloading it?
Meet BULLS: Your Bodyâs Detox Pathways
A simple way to remember your bodyâs detox systems is the acronym BULLS:
- B â Bowels. Eliminate solid waste daily. Fiber, water, and probiotics keep this system moving.
- U â Urinary. Your kidneys filter your blood constantly. They need waterâaim for half your body weight in ounces each day.
- L â Lungs. Every breath out releases carbon dioxide. Deep breathing, exercise, and fresh air support this pathway.
- L â Lymph. The lymphatic system clears waste from your tissues but has no pumpâit needs movement. Walking, yoga, and rebounding are all great.
- S â Skin. Your skin eliminates waste through sweat. Saunas, exercise, or even a hot bath all help.
Your body already knows how to detoxâit just needs you to give it support.
What Your Body Needs to Detox Well
Here are some key ways to support your detox pathways daily:
- Nutrition. Cruciferous veggies (like broccoli and kale) activate liver enzymes. Colorful foods like berries and citrus provide antioxidants.
- Hydration. Without water, nothing moves. Herbal teas and infused water count, too.
- Fiber. Think of it as your bodyâs broom. Flax, chia, beans, lentils, and vegetables keep things moving.
- Movement. Exercise expands your lungs, pumps your lymph, and makes you sweatâall detox pathways.
- Stress Management. High cortisol slows liver detox. Practices like prayer, journaling, or dancing in your kitchen help.
Supplements can be gentle helpers, too. Some of my favorites from Remedies Wellness include:
- Ultimate Shake (protein + fiber for busy mornings)
- Pro Greens (superfood blend for extra plant power)
- Liv Complete (supports liver health with milk thistle & NAC)
 Donât Forget Your Environment
Supporting detox isnât just about what we eatâitâs also about what we surround ourselves with.
- Plastics. Swap for glass whenever possibleâespecially when heating food.
- Cleaning supplies. Harsh sprays add to your toxic load. Iâve used natural cleaners for yearsâmessage me and Iâll share my favorites.
- Body products. Lotions, shampoos, perfumesâour skin absorbs what we put on it. Choose clean versions when you can.
- Candles & wax melts. Recent studies show paraffin wax can release compounds like benzene and formaldehyde. Safer options include soy, beeswax, or essential-oil-based candles.
Small swaps over time add up to a big difference for your health.

 Final Thoughts
Detox isnât about harsh cleanses or quick fixes. Itâs about supporting the systems your body already uses every dayâyour bowels, urinary system, lungs, lymph, and skin. With simple, consistent habits, you can help your body do what it was beautifully designed to do.
Remember: you are wonderfully and beautifully made. You donât need to punish your bodyâyou just need to support it, love it, and let it do what it was created to do.
